DES MOINES, Iowa - A Crawford County man said although he was excited when he thought he'd won $14 on his "Rock of Ages" instant-scratch ticket, he was much more excited when he realized it was actually the top prize of $14,000.

Tom Crampton, 59, said he was on his way to the bank when he stopped at the Kum & Go at 1109 Fourth Ave. S. in Denison, where he picked up a few lottery tickets.

"I scratched it off and saw fourteen and I was pretty excited about $14," Crampton said. "I went the rest of the way and saw the rest of the zeros and thought, 'Alright!'"

Since Crampton, who is from Vail, was by himself when he scratched the ticket, the first call he made was to his son.

"He was in bed and he jumped up out of bed. He didn't believe it at first," Crampton said.

Crampton said he's also told his brothers and other family and friends about the win. He said they're all very excited for him.

Crampton, who works for Farmland Foods in Denison, said he already knows exactly what he wants to use his winnings for. Crampton was on his way to the bank to ask for a loan for a vehicle when he bought his winning Rock of Ages ticket. He said he won't need that loan anymore.

"I can also remodel my bathroom right away rather than waiting until this summer," he said.

Crampton said he enjoys playing the Rock of Ages ticket and plans to keep playing.

"There's got to be more than one winner out there, right?" Crampton said.

Crampton claimed his prize March 21 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.

The Iowa Lottery is the first lottery in the nation to offer a scratch ticket based on a hit Broadway musical. The scratch ticket features artwork from the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages."
