DES MOINES, Iowa - A Shenandoah man was in shock after discovering he'd won a $10,000 prize in the March 23 Hot Lotto drawing.

Jerrod Archer, 23, said he began playing Hot Lotto when he turned 21 because it was a game his dad always played; but he never dreamed he'd win a big prize.

"I'm still in shock," Archer said.

Archer discovered his win when the same person who sold him the ticket at Whitehill Food Mart at 1310 W. Sheridan Ave. in Shenandoah, validated it for him.

"The clerk was pretty surprised, too," Archer said.

Archer's girlfriend was waiting out in the car when he discovered his win. He said while she was excited, she was a little skeptical at first.

"She didn't believe me right away," Archer said.

Archer has also told his mom about his big win. He said she didn't believe him at first either, but was excited.

He said he plans to put his winnings into savings. Archer claimed his prize March 29 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.

The winning numbers in the $5.58 million Hot Lotto jackpot drawing on March 23 were: 6-15-21-35-38 and Hot Ball 18. Archer matched the five white balls but missed the Hot Ball to win a $10,000 prize. Had he added the Sizzler option to his ticket, Archer would have multiplied his $10,000 win by three to win a $30,000 prize. There was no jackpot winner for the March 23 drawing.

Hot Lotto players choose five numbers from a pool of 39 and another number, called the Hot Ball, from a pool of 19. The Hot Lotto jackpot starts at $1 million and grows until someone wins it. Tickets in the game cost $1. Hot Lotto drawings are held at about 9:40 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, just before the Powerball drawings.

Players can multiply their non-jackpot prizes by three with the Hot Lotto Sizzler® option. The cost is $1 per play. Prizes are always tripled with the Hot Lotto Sizzler.
