DES MOINES, Iowa - A Council Bluffs man won the top prize of $14,000 playing the lottery's "Rock of Ages" instant-scratch game.

Thomas Scarpello claimed his prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. He purchased his winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 1745 Madison St. in Council Bluffs.

The Iowa Lottery is the first lottery in the nation to offer a scratch ticket based on a hit Broadway musical. The scratch ticket features artwork from the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages." The Iowa Lottery has teamed up with the Tony®-nominated hit show and the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines to offer the game. The Civic Center presented the hit musical April 19 - 24 as part of its Willis Broadway Series.

If players do not win instantly on their Rock of Ages scratch tickets, they can enter nonwinning tickets on the Iowa Lottery's website at for a chance to win tickets to see the show, guitars signed by the Rock of Ages cast and more.
