DES MOINES, Iowa - An Urbandale man was visiting his family for Easter when he purchased a Powerball ticket for Saturday's drawing and ended up winning a $10,000 prize.

Kirk Balm, 23, said he doesn't play Powerball very often, but he decided to buy a ticket while he was home because his dad always plays.

"I got a call Sunday morning saying that he thought we won some money," Balm said. "I looked it up on the internet and couldn't believe it. Ten thousand dollars; that's a lot of money!"

Balm said he's only told his roommates and his coworkers about his win so far.

"I got some time off work to come back and claim it. It's nice," Balm said when he claimed his prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.

Balm said now that he's won big, he might start playing Powerball a little more often.

"It could be beginner's luck, though, too," Balm said with a laugh.

Balm plans to use his winnings to pay his student loans as well as purchase a new road bike for RAGBRAI.

Balm purchased his winning ticket at Sidney Foods, 2037 Highway 75 in Sidney.

The winning numbers in the $36 million Powerball jackpot drawing on Saturday were: 6-13-15-32-41 and Powerball 3. The Power Play® multiplier was 2. Balm won a $10,000 prize by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Had he added the Power Play to his ticket, Balm would have multiplied his $10,000 win by two to win a $20,000 prize.

There was no jackpot winner in Saturday's drawing.

Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot) up to five times. The cost is $1 per play. The Power Play number, 2 through 5, is chosen at the beginning of the drawing indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if that number is drawn.

For players who choose the Power Play and match five white balls (regularly a $200,000 prize), the multiplier will always be 5, so those players would win an instant $1 million.
