Orintha Galella Wins Top Prize Playing "Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game"
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Moline, Ill. woman said she's seriously thinking of retiring after she and her husband won the top prize of $100,000 playing Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game.
Orintha Galella, 58, said she has been working part time doing factory work since her husband's retirement. But after winning a $100,000 prize, she's thinking that might change.
"My husband checked the ticket and he yelled, 'We won a hundred thousand dollars!'" Galella said.
Galella said winning the prize was a joint effort between she and her husband, John. John purchased the ticket at Tobacco Outlet Plus, 2312 State St. in Bettendorf and she told him which numbers to play.
"I just picked them randomly. I would've bought it in Illinois because I don't play in Iowa. We've done wonderful in Iowa!" she said.
Galella said she was in total shock when John told her what they'd won.
"I went, 'No we didn't.' I didn't believe him and then I checked the ticket and we were both jumping around," Galella said with a laugh.
Galella said the Cash Game and Pick 4 are her favorite Iowa Lottery games to play and John has been lucky before.
"He won six thousand dollars on the Pick 4 when it came up 2-2-2-2," she said.
Galella said she and John plan to use some of their winnings to pay bills, purchase new appliances and they might take a vacation for their 37 year anniversary.
"I can't stop smiling," she said.
Galella claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Players in Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game choose five numbers from a pool of 35. Tickets in the game cost $1 and drawings are held at 6:28 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The odds of winning the game's top prize are 1 in 324,632.
Galella matched all five numbers in the May 3 Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game drawing to win her $100,000 prize. The winning numbers that day were: 7-9-10-34-35.
