James and Vicki Barton Win Top Prize of $50,000 Playing "Sizzling 7's" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Burlington couple won the top prize of $50,000 playing the lottery's "Sizzling 7's" instant-scratch game.
Vicki Barton, 54, was home by herself when she scratched the winning ticket. She called her husband, James, immediately to tell him the news.
"I said, 'Come back to the truck stop, I need to show you something,'" Barton said.
Barton was pretty shocked about winning the top prize.
"I can't believe it! We're dreaming!" she said.
Barton, who works as a delivery driver for Otis Campbell's Bar & Grill in Burlington, has also told her coworkers about the big win.
"When I got to work at 4:30, some regular customers gave me a standing ovation when I walked through the door," she said.
Barton said she's already got plans for her winnings.
"We have three kids, so we're going to share a little and go on vacation, just the two of us, to California," she said.
The Bartons claimed their prize May 24 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. They purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 939 Angular St. in Burlington.
Barton said she enjoys playing scratch games and plans to continue playing.
"Until they put the last nail in my coffin," she said with a laugh.
