Hear Karen tell her story.
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Bettendorf woman was never expecting to uncover a $30,000 "Crossword" instant-scratch prize.
Karen Beane said she doesn't always stop at the Tobacco Outlet Plus, 2312 State St. in Bettendorf, but decided to make a quick stop in to get some of her favorite Crossword tickets.
"I was down to my second to last one and I couldn't believe it!" Beane said.
She took a double take when she uncovered the top prize of $30,000.
When she had her ticket validated, she said "I turned around and gave a high-five to the lady behind me in line."
Beane, 39, who is a letter carrier for the Postal Service, is going to use her winnings to pay off her oldest son's car as a graduation present and get new siding for her house.
