Hear Tammy tell her story.
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Kossuth County woman was shocked when she won the top prize of $50,000 playing the lottery's "Fabulous Fortune" instant-scratch game.
Tammy Jo Johnson of Swea City, who owns the local The Country Inn Bar & Grill, was filling up her truck on her way to work and decided to buy a few scratch tickets, too.
"I went to work and scratched the winning ticket at my desk," she said. "I thought, 'Oh my goodness!'"
Johnson, 54, drove home to show her husband, Mike, the winning ticket who was pretty excited, too.
Johnson said they already had some big plans in mind for their winnings.
"We have our City Days coming up here the 17th and 18th," she said. "We're going to have a fun party. We have a band and we'll make it really fun for the town."
Johnson claimed her prize May 31 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City. Johnson purchased her winning ticket at Loofts on 9 Minimart, 101 4th Ave. W. in Swea City.
