Myron Kuester Wins a Big Prize in Powerball® Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Woodbury County man purchased a Powerball ticket for the June 1 drawing and ended up winning a $10,000 prize.
Myron Kuester of Bronson claimed his prize June 7 at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.
"I had a coworker of mine go online and check it for me. Hit the four numbers and the Powerball," he said.
Kuester, 50, is a supervisor for R.E. Lewis Refrigeration in Creston.
He needed some reassurance, however, that he had actually won the $10,000 prize.
"Called my wife and had her check it, then I went to the store and checked it again. There it was…$10,000!" he said.
Kuester said he's been letting as many people as possible know about his big win.
"Everybody on my contact list on my phone, my bosses, secretaries, friends and family," he said. "They are all excited!"
Kuester said he'll consult his wife on what to do with the winnings.
"I am going to let her figure that out," he said.
Kuester plans to continue to play Powerball with the hope that he'll win the jackpot.
He purchased the winning ticket at Pump N Pak, 200 First St. in Sergeant Bluff.
The winning numbers in the $201.9 million Powerball jackpot drawing on June 1 were 8-18-38-46-56 and Powerball 31. The Power Play® multiplier was 4. Kuester won a $10,000 prize by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Had he added the Power Play to his ticket, Kuester would have multiplied his $10,000 win by four to win a $40,000 prize.
After talking with his mom, he said he won't forget to choose the Power Play again.
"A little grief from my mom for not playing the multiplier," he said.
Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot) up to five times. The cost is $1 per play. The Power Play number, 2 through 5, is chosen at the beginning of the drawing indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if that number is drawn.
For players who choose the Power Play and match five white balls (regularly a $200,000 prize), the multiplier will always be 5, so those players would win an instant $1 million.
The $201.9 million Powerball jackpot was won in New York in the June 1 drawing.
