Randy Bettcher Wins the Top Prize Playing "Crossword" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Dubuque man won a $30,000 top prize playing the lottery's "Crossword" instant-scratch game.
Randy Bettcher, 54, purchased his winning Crossword ticket at Kwik Stop, 4110 Dodge St. in Dubuque.
After scratching the ticket, Bettcher waited until later that day to take his ticket to a lottery retailer to get it verified. He shared the news with the clerks.
"They were happy for me," said Bettcher.
Bettcher is keeping the news of his big win to himself for right now. He said he'll be practical about using his winnings and pay bills.
Bettcher, who is a construction worker, claimed his prize on Thursday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
