Jamie Washburn Wins $10,000 Playing "Triple Platinum 777" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Linn County man won $10,000 playing the lottery's "Triple Platinum 777" instant-scratch game while getting a cup of coffee for his wife.
Jamie Washburn of Alburnett was getting the coffee for his wife, Mindy, early Sunday morning. He purchased the ticket while he was there and let his son scratch it.
"We got all the way down to the second to last line and he said, 'Oh, Dad, you got a seven,'" said Washburn.
"He said, 'You just won $10,000!'"
Mindy Washburn didn't believe Jamie when he told her that he had won the big prize.
"Now, I've come to claim my prize, so now she will have to believe me," he laughed.
Washburn, 39, was having fun sharing the news with his coworkers.
"I took a picture on my cell phone and sent it to them," said Washburn. "They are all excited and they thought it was pretty cool."
Washburn doesn't play the lottery often, but he said he is sure glad he did this time.
"I don't know, something just told me to buy the ticket," said Washburn.
The Washburn family had been discussing the idea of going on vacation to Minnesota.
"I'm pretty sure we're going to go now!" exclaimed Washburn.
Washburn owns a drywall business in Alburnett.
He purchased his winning Triple Platinum 777 ticket at Lefty's Convenience Store, 105 S. Main Ave. in Alburnett. Washburn claimed his prize on Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
