Jacquie Heinze Wins Top Prize Playing "Great State Tailgate" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - With her husband facing some medical hardships, a Fairbank woman said her top prize win of $10,000 playing the "Great State Tailgate" ticket will greatly help them until he can return to work.
Jacquie Heinze's husband, Ralph, suffered a heart attack in July and will not be cleared to return to work until November, so she said the win was an emotional one for them.
"This is awesome," Heinze said. "He started crying [when I told him]. He teared up and said, 'Wow, this will come in really handy.'"
Heinze, 55, purchased the ticket after her shift ended at Kwik Star, 841 South St. in Jesup. She said she scratched it in her car, and had to return to the store to have it validated so she could believe what she was seeing.
"I went in and had it verified because I was like, shocked," Heinze said.
Heinze said she and Ralph were so excited about the win, they sent photos of the winning ticket to their children all across Iowa.
"I had never played the game before. I worked overtime and had some extra money, so I decided to try it," she said.
Heinze said she and Ralph plan to use some of the winnings to cover medical expenses.
