DES MOINES, Iowa - A Waterloo man decided to play the lottery's "Great State Tailgate" ticket in honor of football season and ended up winning a top prize of $10,000.

Anthony Tisdale said the football theme is what drew him to the Great State Tailgate ticket, but he never dreamed he would win the top prize.

"It's football season; it's a good ticket!" Tisdale said.

Tisdale, who is a machinist for John Deere in Waterloo, said he told most of his coworkers about his win so he could get some time off to claim his big prize.

"I showed them," Tisdale said. "I have to buy them lunch now."

Tisdale said he plans to donate some of the money to his church as well as share with his family and pay bills.

"My wife says she gets fifty percent, period," Tisdale said with a laugh.

Tisdale claimed his prize Thursday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. He purchased his winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 2181 Logan Ave. in Waterloo.
