DES MOINES, Iowa - A Maquoketa man said he had a fantastic weekend after discovering he'd won a $100,000 top prize playing the lottery's "Triple Platinum 777" instant-scratch game.

Laine Wolter, 57, said he typically works weekends, so when he discovered his huge prize on Friday, he had planned to take a couple days off to celebrate. But his boss did him one better.

"I guess the general manager of the plant found out I won and told me they'd give me the days off without having to use my vacation time," Wolter said. "They said I probably wouldn't have gotten much done anyway."

Wolter said all his coworkers at Uniparts Olsen in Eldridge were very excited for him. Wolter was alone when he first scratched his ticket, and found the win hard to believe.

"I thought I'd won a hundred bucks and then I scratched the rest of it off and saw it was a hundred thousand!" he said.

Wolter took it back to Casey's, 840 E. Le Claire Road in Eldridge where he purchased the ticket to have it validated.

"Then I guarded it with my life," he said. "She let out a big woop and called for her manager."

Wolter also told his two sons about his big win.

"My oldest boy didn't want to believe me so he called my younger son and said, 'Are you in on this?'" Wolter said with a laugh.

Wolter said he enjoys playing the Triple Platinum 777 ticket because he has multiple chances to win on the ticket.

"I bought it because it was quicker and I was on my way to work. Right pick!" he said.

Wolter said he plans to buy a house with his winnings.

Wolter claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
