Marsha Baethke Wins Top Prize Playing "Magic Line Bingo" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Cresco woman said she couldn't believe her eyes when she discovered she'd won the last top prize of $25,000 playing the Iowa Lottery's "Magic Line Bingo" instant-scratch game.
Marsha Baethke, 43, said she double and triple-checked her ticket to make sure she was the winner.
"I checked about three or four times just to double check," Baethke said. "Then I took it over to my landlord and she checked it too. I was shaking so bad and crying!"
Baethke said she called her best friend to tell her the good news.
"We were screaming and jumping up and down," she said.
Baethke said she bought the winning ticket on a whim at Kwik Star, 330 Second Ave. S.E. in Cresco while she was out for her morning walk.
"I only needed one number to win and I had three numbers left to scratch," she said. "The second number I scratched was the one I needed."
Baethke said she plays the lottery off and on, but really likes the Bingo and "Crossword" ticket.
Baethke is a cashier for a Kwik Star store in Decorah, and her manager was the person who let her know she was the last top-prize winner in the game.
"It's pretty cool," she said.
Baethke said she plans to use some of her winnings to pay bills as well as purchase a newer vehicle.
Baethke claimed her prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City.
