DES MOINES, Iowa - A Durant man had to put his $50,000 "Holiday Bonus Crossword" prize on hold to take his daughter to a meeting.

Nicholas Happ, 41, said he scratched his ticket right before taking his daughter to a 4-H meeting and while he thought he'd won something big, he didn't have time to double-check until later.

"When I got home I checked it and checked it and checked it and called my wife and said, 'Yeah, I think we have something big.'" Happ said.

Happ said his wife, Kristal, didn't really believe what he'd won until he claimed his prize Thursday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

"A few people know but not many. I was still doubting myself even though I'd checked it about a hundred times," Happ said.

Happ said he and Kristal had not yet discussed how they plan to use the winnings.

He purchased the winning ticket at Jeff's Market, 408 Sixth Ave. in Durant.
