DES MOINES, Iowa - Instead of purchasing one "Spooky Loot" instant-scratch ticket, a Cedar Rapids man accidentally pushed the wrong button on the instant ticket vending machine and ended up with a ticket winning a $13,000 prize.
Kevin Macie, 51, said he accidentally pushed the "max play" button on the vending machine giving him more than one Spooky Loot ticket at Hy-Vee, 20 Wilson Ave. S.W. in Cedar Rapids, but he's not complaining.
"It's pretty cool," Macie said.
Macie said the first person he told was his girlfriend, but she had a hard time believing him.
"She lives an hour away and is on her way here," he said. "She won't believe me until she sees it."
Macie claimed his prize Oct. 20 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids, the same day he purchased the ticket.
Macie said he has some big plans for his winnings.
"My daughter has stage four cancer so this will really come in handy paying for treatments," he said.
