DES MOINES, Iowa - A North English woman won a $30,000 top prize after purchasing a "Lucky Lines" ticket on a whim.
Julie Harriman was traveling with her daughter when they decided to stop at Deli Mart, 525 Highway 1 W. in Iowa City.
"I bought a bottle of water and picked out Lucky Lines," Harriman said. "My daughter said, 'Oh, get two.' And it was actually the second one that won!"
Harriman, who is a legal assistant, said she was adamant they hadn't won anything.
"I said, 'There has to be a catch,'" Harriman said. "Then the cashier ran it for me and the machine said, 'You're a winner!'"
Harriman said the first person she and her daughter called was Harriman's husband.
"My skepticism was wrong. I kept thinking, 'Oh I didn't win; I never win!'" Harriman said with a laugh.
Harriman claimed her prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She said she plans to use some of her winnings for her daughter's college fund as well as paying bills.
