DES MOINES, Iowa - A Wright County man won a $10,000 prize playing the lottery's "Red Hot Cherries" instant-scratch game just one day after returning home from a vacation.
Larry Rasmussen, 52, headed to Casey's, 319 E. Hwy. 3 in Goldfield the morning after returning from a trip to Mexico.
"It was just one that I play off and on," Rasmussen said. "It was a bit shocking."
Rasmussen owns his own landscape company in Goldfield, where he lives, and is also the mayor. The first person he told was his wife, Connie.
"She was shocked, too," he said.
Rasmussen said he hasn't quite decided how to use his winnings just yet. He claimed his prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City.
