DES MOINES, Iowa - After chatting with her mom about the $325 million Powerball jackpot for Saturday's drawing, an Ida County woman decided to buy a ticket and won a prize of $40,000.
Kiley Simonson-Frank, 21, said she's always joked about winning the lottery, but said she never dreamed it would actually happen.
"She said, 'Oh, you should probably pick up a ticket,'" Simonson-Frank said. "And she always said if I bought a ticket to get the multiplier, so I did and I guess I struck gold."
Simonson-Frank purchased her ticket at Sparky's One Stop, Hwy 71 and 175 in Lake View. She is currently attending Iowa Central College in Fort Dodge and was in her dorm room when she discovered her win.
"I about fainted," she said. "No one believed me, so I called my grandpa and I think I made his day."
Simonson-Frank, who is from Arthur, said she was having a study party in her dorm room when she found out about her win and said she didn't get much homework done.
"We were screaming and jumping at the same time. No one could really believe it. I was in shock," she said.
Simonson-Frank said she wants to take some time to think about how to use her winnings.
"I don't want to blow it all," she said.
The winning numbers in the $325 million Powerball jackpot drawing on Saturday were: 1-10-37-52-57 and Powerball 11. There was one ticket sold in Rhode Island that won Saturday's jackpot.
Simonson-Frank won a $10,000 prize by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Because she added the Power Play® to her ticket, Simonson-Frank multiplied her win to $40,000.
Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot). The cost is $1 per play. Players who chose the Power Play prior to Jan. 15 and matched four white balls and the Powerball won a $10,000 prize multiplied by the number that was chosen for the Power Play. In the new $2 Powerball game, players who choose the Power Play and match four white balls and the Powerball win a $40,000 prize.
Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
