DES MOINES, Iowa - A Burlington woman made a last-minute stop on her way to church the morning Feb. 12 when she purchased a "PAC-MAN™" instant-scratch ticket and won a top prize of $10,000.

Marilyn Hofstetter, 29, said she was alone in her car when she scratched the ticket.

"I was running late, so I went ahead and went to church and handled it later," Hofstetter said.

Hofstetter said she didn't even tell anyone at church what she'd won. She did call a friend on her way to church, though, to tell her the news.

"She said, 'Oh my gosh, you're so lucky!'" Hofstetter said.

Hofstetter took her ticket back to Jet Stop South, 901 South St. in Burlington where she'd purchased it to have it validated.

"I've won a thousand before, but never this much," she said.

Hofstetter said she plans to save her winnings for a down payment on a house. She claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
