DES MOINES, Iowa - A pit stop on her way home from a road trip with her son led to a $10,000 win playing the "Triple Platinum 777" game for a Manning woman.
Laural Vetter, 54, said her son, David, wanted to stop for a soda on their way home from visiting her mother, so she decided to purchase some lottery tickets at Kum & Go, 730 High St. in Rockwell City.
"I got home and surprise, surprise," Vetter said. "I sat there looking at it like something was wrong."
David was in the other room when she scratched her ticket, so he shared in her excitement.
"I said, 'You're not going to believe this!'" she said. "He was surprised and immediately had to call his friends and tell everybody."
Vetter, who is a nurse at Manning Plaza Retirement Home in Manning, said she was sure she'd won, so she didn't have her ticket validated before claiming her prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.
"I've just had a winning streak with $10 tickets lately," Vetter said. "With the two I bought, I had this one and another $20 winner!"
Vetter said she plans to use some of her winnings to purchase a new refrigerator and wants to take time to think about the rest.
