DES MOINES, Iowa - A Webster County man was casually scratching his "Cash Bonanza" scratch ticket in the grocery store when he discovered he'd won a $10,000 prize.
James Jackson, 63, said he knew he had a winner, but wasn't sure how much at first.
"I saw the one and zero so at first I thought it was a hundred dollars," he said. "But as I kept scratching it kept getting bigger."
Jackson, who is a farmer from Lehigh, said he has won other big prizes in the past, but nothing of this magnitude. In fact, the day he claimed his $10,000 prize, he also claimed a $1,000 prize in the lottery's "Triple Platinum 777" instant-scratch game.
"It was exciting," he said. "Something like that always is."
Jackson purchased his winning ticket at Duncombe Gas & Grocery, 418 Main St. in Duncombe. He said he plans to save his winnings.
Jackson claimed his prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City.
