DES MOINES, Iowa - A Lucas County man didn't end up going to sleep after his night shift ended, because he discovered he'd won a top prize playing the lottery's "$30,000 Club" instant-scratch game.

Terry Durham, 45, said he likes to scratch tickets to wind down after his shifts at the Hy-Vee Warehouse in Chariton. This time, he didn't exactly get to wind down, though.

"I started scratching and those clubs kept popping up," Durham said. "I couldn't believe it."

Durham said he usually plays the lottery's "Crossword" ticket, but he decided to try something different; he never dreamed he'd win a top prize of $30,000.

Durham, who is from Chariton, immediately woke up his wife, Nita, to tell her the news.

"She never went back to bed," Durham said with a laugh as he claimed his prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.

Durham said the couple has told their kids about the win, too.

"We sent them pictures of the tickets so they'd believe us," he said.

Durham said he plans to use some of his winnings to pay bills, as well as spoil his grandchildren.

He purchased his winning ticket at Casey's, 335 N. Main St. in Chariton.
