Luck Is Her Name, Winning Is Her Game

Chris Luck Wins Top Prize Playing "Lucky Jar Bingo" Scratch Game

Chris Luck   Hear Chris tell her story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Waterloo woman joked that she thought her last name was a curse until she won a top prize of $25,000 playing the lottery's "Lucky Jar Bingo" instant-scratch game.

Chris Luck, 50, said she expects to have several people make jokes that she was lucky enough to win a top prize on Lucky Jar Bingo, especially with a last name like Luck.

"Up until now I thought that name was pretty much a curse," Luck said with a laugh. "But my luck has changed, I guess!"

Luck said she sent her husband, Gary, to the grocery store for a few things when he returned with a few scratch tickets as well.

"Nobody was in the house when I scratched it," she said. "I run out on the deck and I'm out there yelling, 'I won $25,000!'"

Luck, who works at Birch Cabinets in Waterloo, said both her husband and her son were skeptical of the win until they checked the ticket themselves. Then they were very excited for her.

Luck took the ticket back to Cork's Grocery, 1956 Lafayette St. in Waterloo to have it validated.

"They were very excited for us," she said.

Luck said she and Gary are planning to do some remodeling on their retirement home with her winnings. She claimed her prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
