DES MOINES, Iowa - A Muscatine woman was not expecting to win a top prize of $50,000 when she began scratching her "Super Crossword" ticket.
Kelsey Gaskey, 23, said she scratched her ticket after her mom had gone to bed, but she didn't get much sleep.
"I said to her, 'Hey Mom, I think we just won $50,000!'" Gaskey said. "She jumped out of bed and I told her I needed her to check it for me."
Gaskey had a friend drive her to a nearby convenience store where she had the ticket validated.
"They told me I was a winner and I just freaked out," she said. "I've been freaking out ever since."
Gaskey, who is a massage therapist, claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
"I told my best friend because she's worked at gas stations and I had to have her walk me through it," she said. "I've never had this kind of money, or ever even thought about having this kind of money."
Gaskey is planning on using some of her winnings to get her own place, as well as share with her loved ones.
"I know my grandma has given me a lot so I'd like to help her out," Gaskey said.
Gaskey purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 3010 University Drive in Muscatine.
