DES MOINES, Iowa - A Muscatine man was getting ready for bed when his wife, Estella, realized they had won a $30,000 top prize playing the "Roulette" instant-scratch game.
Edwin Colon, 55, said no one in their home could believe they were the winners. Colon took the ticket back to Hy-Vee Drugstore, 510 E. Sixth St. in Muscatine where he had purchased it to have it validated.
"I took it to the store and they said, 'Yeah, you're a winner!'" Colon said.
Colon said the Roulette ticket has been a lucky ticket for his family so far, but they never dreamed they'd win a top prize.
"My wife said, 'We're going to get it!' and we finally got it," he said.
Colon joked that his 22-year-old daughter is ready for her dad to buy her a car.
"She has three kids and they think I'm rich," Colon said with a laugh as he claimed his prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Colon said he plans to use some of his winnings to pay bills as well as take a vacation with his wife.
"We're both retired, so that's what we're going to do," he said. "Wish me more luck!"
