DES MOINES, Iowa - A Crawford County woman said there was no keeping her $10,000 lottery win a secret in her hometown of about 300 people.
Krista Reiter, 24, said everyone in Westside knew about her top-prize win on the "Triple Fortune" scratch ticket before she even made it home.
"I told my dad, I called him right away," Reiter said. "He told one of his coworkers at the feed mill in town and it spread from there."
Reiter said she got phone calls while on her way home from Casey's, 613 W. U.S. Hwy. 30 in Carroll where she purchased her ticket, asking if she had won the big prize. She purchased two tickets, and gave her friend, Kelli, one to scratch.
"I gave her the even [numbered] one and then I won $10,000!" Reiter said with a laugh.
Kelli called her fiancé, Nick, to tell him the good news.
"He would not believe me at first because I kind of play practical jokes on him all the time," Reiter said. "It took him a while for it to sink in and he was finally like, 'Oh, my gosh!'"
Reiter said she and Nick are getting married in July and are doing some extreme remodeling on their home, so this could not have happened at a better time.
"I would've been happy with five hundred!" Reiter said.
Reiter claimed her prize June 22 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Storm Lake.Return to top↑
