DES MOINES, Iowa - A Keokuk woman said she didn't consider herself a lucky person until she won a top prize of $10,000 playing the lottery"s "Royal Riches" instant-scratch game.
Debbie Clark, 53, said she was all alone when she scratched her ticket in the parking lot of Murphy USA, 3450 Main St. in Keokuk, where she bought it.
"At first I couldn't believe it," Clark said. "I never win so it was pretty unbelievable."
Clark said she doesn't play scratch games very often, so she just randomly decided to purchase the Royal Riches ticket. She called her husband, Mark, to tell him the good news.
"He was very happy," Clark said. "My daughter had to look at it twice."
Clark said she's planning to keep playing the Royal Riches ticket now that it's her lucky ticket.
"Might as well," she said.
Clark is planning to use some of her winnings to complete the installation of her large, above-ground pool.
"We had it up at our other house, but never here," Clark said. "We knew it would cost a lot to remove trees and stuff, so we hadn't put it up."
Clark claimed her prize June 28 at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
