DES MOINES, Iowa - A Forest City man said his top-prize win of $100,000 playing the lottery's "Gemstone 10s" instant-scratch game will help him further his career as a musician.

Tim Davis, 25, was with his fiancée, Jess, when he scratched the ticket.

"I didn't expect to win, I just bought it for something to do," Davis said.

Davis said when he first scratched the ticket he thought he had just won his $10 back.

"I put a little streak through it and said, 'What does that say?' And [Jess] said, 'It looks like a bunch of zeros!'" Davis said. "I scratched it off and it was a hundred thousand!"

Davis was on his way to his second job at Winnebago as a forklift driver, so he asked his boss for the day off so he could claim his prize.

Davis has told his family and friends about his big win, and they're all excited for him.

"I'm going to Waterloo today to give my brother a couple grand. He's got kids, so I want to help out," he said.

Davis claimed his prize Aug. 20 at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He said he plans to use some of his winnings to invest in his music career.

"I'm going to invest in some equipment for a studio. My singles will be out next month!" he said.

Davis plays bass and drums in a rock-n-roll band and is excited to be able to jump-start his career. He purchased his winning ticket at Sid's Gas & Groceries, 1116 Hwy. 69 S. in Forest City.
