DES MOINES, Iowa - A Parkersburg woman purchased a "Lucky Jar Bingo" instant-scratch ticket for something to do during her daughter's soccer practice and ended up winning a top prize of $25,000.
Deb Oldenburger, 37, said she started scratching the ticket while at her daughter's soccer practice, but was interrupted so she stuck the ticket in her book to scratch later.
"I got it out last night when I got my book out to read and I thought, 'Wow, I think I won $500,'" Oldenburger said. "And then I said, 'Oh, wait, I think I won $25,000!'"
Oldenburger said she immediately hopped out of bed and ran to get her husband.
"I said, 'Will you look this over quickly?' He looked it over and said, 'Wow, you have got to be kidding me!'" Oldenburger said.
Oldenburger, who is a teacher at AGWSR Middle School, and her husband took the ticket back to where she purchased it, Kwik Star, 605 Hwy. 57 in Parkersburg to have it validated. She said she got little sleep before claiming her prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
"On top of it, I had my three year formal evaluation today," she said with a laugh. "It was like, I don't know which one I'm more excited for!"
Oldenburger said she doesn't play scratch games very often, but when she does, it's always Bingo.
Oldenburger said she loves to dream about what she could do with lottery winnings, but admits to being a pretty conservative person.
"I actually have considered going back to get my Master's, but it's fun to think about all the fun stuff I could do," she said. "I'm sure I'll put it in the bank and ponder for a while."Return to top↑
