DES MOINES, Iowa - An Emmetsburg woman said when her husband called her for the third time, she finally started to believe him that their Powerball ticket was most likely the one that had won a $10,000 prize.

Trudy Manwarren, 47, joined in with millions of other people to purchase a ticket for the monster $587.5 million jackpot drawing on Nov. 28; she never really expected to win big, though.

"My husband called me at work Thursday because one of the guys he worked with told him there was a $10,000 winner in Graettinger," Manwarren said. "Because I live just south of there, actually. And he told me he just knew it was us. He just knew it because I bought the ticket there."

Manwarren, who is a hairdresser at Shear Shack in Estherville, purchased her winning ticket at Graettinger Country Store, 102 S. Iowa Hwy. 4 in Graettinger. Her husband, Gary, got on the Iowa Lottery's website and checked the winning numbers to see if they had in fact won a big prize.

"He got online and he checked the numbers and I didn't believe him," she said. "And I kept asking him if he was lying to me."

Manwarren and Gary validated their ticket after work.

"Well, when we got in there the gal said, 'Are you the winner?'" she said. "Because they knew they had had a winner. I said, 'Yeah, I think I am.'"

There were lots of people in the store who celebrated Manwarren's win with her.

"All the papers then began spitting out of the machine and she didn't know what I was supposed to do so she called the manager of the store and shook my hand," she said. "I left with the papers validating that my ticket had won."

Manwarren claimed her prize Dec. 3 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Storm Lake. She said she's planning to take some time before deciding how to spend her winnings.

The winning numbers in the $587.5 million Powerball jackpot drawing on Nov. 28 were 5-16-22-23-29 and Powerball 6. Manwarren won a $10,000 prize by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Had she added the Power Play® to her ticket, Manwarren would have multiplied her win to $40,000.

There were two tickets that split the huge jackpot prize on Nov. 28, one in Arizona and one in Missouri. Wednesday's estimated jackpot is $50 million.

Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot). The cost is $1 per play. Players who chose the Power Play prior to Jan. 15 and matched four white balls and the Powerball won a $10,000 prize multiplied by the number that was chosen for the Power Play. In the new $2 Powerball game, players who choose the Power Play and match four white balls and the Powerball win a $40,000 prize.

Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
