Christopher Davis Wins $10,000 Prize in Oct. 17 Hot Lotto® Drawing

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Clinton County man said he almost forgot about the Hot Lotto ticket he purchased for the drawing on Oct. 6, but he's glad he didn't because he won a $10,000 prize that night.

Christopher Davis, 38, said he purchased the ticket for multiple drawings so it sat in his wallet for two months before he finally checked his numbers online.

"It was probably four o'clock in the morning when I checked it online and I looked at it five or six times before I really believed it," he said.

Davis, who is from Elwood, woke up his wife, Amy, to tell her the good news.

"She said, 'Merry Christmas,'" Davis said.

Davis, who is self-employed doing general construction, said the winter months can be slow for him so the win comes at a good time.

"We'll use it to get through the winter and put some away for the kids," he said.

Davis said of all the lotto games, he plays Hot Lotto the most often. He won the prize using an easy-pick.

He claimed his prize Dec. 6 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. Davis purchased his winning ticket at Tri-Stop, 302 Iowa Highway 136 in Lost Nation.

Davis' $10,000 winning ticket came close to winning it all in the Oct. 6 drawing, matching the first five numbers but missing the Hot Ball. The winning numbers in the $3.16 million Hot Lotto jackpot drawing that night were: 4-5-13-18-25 and Hot Ball 4.

Players can multiply their non-jackpot prizes by three by purchasing the Hot Lotto with Sizzler option. The cost is $1 per play. Had Davis added the Sizzler to his ticket, he would have multiplied his win to $30,000.

Hot Lotto players choose five numbers from a pool of 39 and another number, called the Hot Ball, from a pool of 19. The Hot Lotto jackpot starts at $1 million and grows until someone wins it. Tickets in the game cost $1. Hot Lotto drawings are held at about 9:40 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, just before the Powerball drawings.

Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Players may visit the Iowa Lottery at 2323 Grand Ave. in Des Moines or go to one of the lottery's regional offices in Council Bluffs, Storm Lake, Mason City or Cedar Rapids to claim prizes.
