Last Day To Claim Prize Is March 20, Players Urged To Double-Check Their Tickets
DES MOINES, Iowa - There's one month to go until the expiration deadline for an unclaimed $10,000-winning Mega Millions ticket sold in Clear Lake, and the Iowa Lottery is asking players to double-check their tickets to see if they have the big winner.
"We don't want to see our prizes go unclaimed, so wherever you keep your tickets, double-check them," Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich said Wednesday.
The $10,000-winning ticket was sold at Kum & Go, 2325 Iowa Highway 18 E. in Clear Lake, for the Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. The ticket matched four white balls and Mega Ball to win a $10,000 prize.
The winning numbers in that night's drawing were: 1-4-6-11-14 and Mega Ball 30. The Megaplier® number that night was 4.
The winner or winners have until the close of business at 4 p.m. on March 20 to claim the prize at a lottery office. The Iowa Lottery has offices in Council Bluffs, Storm Lake, Mason City, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.
In fiscal year 2012, more than $1.1 million in prizes went unclaimed in Iowa lotto games. Unclaimed prizes in Iowa go into prize pools for future lottery games.
Players have up to 90 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes in Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game and the Iowa Lottery's Pick 3 and Pick 4 games. Players in Iowa have up to 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes in Powerball®, Mega Millions and Hot Lotto®. If the expiration date falls on a weekend or holiday when the lottery's offices are closed, the winner has until the close of business on the next business day to turn in the ticket.
