Shawn Elliff Wins Top Prize of $30,000 Playing the "Crossword" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Council Bluffs man was hanging out with some friends when he scratched his "Crossword" instant-scratch ticket and ended up winning a $30,000 prize.
Shawn Elliff, 33, said he has been playing the lottery's Crossword games since he became old enough to play the lottery, so he was very excited to win on his favorite game.
"I still don't believe it," Elliff said. "I checked it like four or five times."
Elliff, who is self-employed cleaning gutters, called one of his brothers to tell him the big news.
"He gave me crap for always buying them so I had to call him first," Elliff said with a laugh as he claimed his prize Jan. 22 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.
Elliff said he is planning to put his winnings in the bank for now, but is considering using some of it to take a trip.
He purchased his winning ticket at No Frills Supermarket, 1817 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs.Return to top↑
