Fayette County Woman Expects A Few Dollars, Goes Home With $10,000 Prize

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Fayette County woman casually checked her Mega Millions ticket for the drawing on Jan. 29, and when the terminal sounded, "Woo hoo! You're a winner!" she was expecting to win a few dollars; she went home with much more, though.

Tammy Rema of Clermont said she couldn't believe it when the retail clerk told her she had actually won a $10,000 prize.

"It was pure shock," Rema said.

Rema sent a text message to her family that said, "Supper at my house tonight" so she could tell them all at the same time.

"My two grandchildren want us to go to a waterpark so I think we can do that," Rema said with a laugh as she claimed her prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Rema, who is a nurse for a care center in New Hampton, said she plans to spoil her grandchildren with her winnings. She purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 215 W. Main St. in Fredericksburg.

The winning numbers in the $12 million jackpot drawing on Jan. 29 were: 8-12-27-46-47 and Mega Ball 6. The Megaplier® number that night was 3.

Rema, 48, matched four white balls and the Mega Ball to win a $10,000 prize. Had she added the Megaplier to the ticket, Rema would have multiplied her win to $30,000.

There was no jackpot winner in the Jan. 29 drawing. Friday's estimated jackpot is $12 million.

Players can multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) with the Megaplier up to four times. The cost is $1 per play.

Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
