Trip To See Family Results In $100,000 Lottery Prize For Omaha Man

Andy Thorne Wins Top Prize in "Game Book" Scratch Game

Andy and Samantha Thorne   Hear Andy tell his story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - On his way home from seeing his parents in Harlan, an Omaha, Neb. man stopped and picked up one of the lottery's "Game Book" instant-scratch tickets and won a huge prize.

Andy Thorne, 25, claimed the third of six top prizes of $100,000 in Game Book at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs on Monday.

"We actually didn't believe we had it when we got it," Thorne said.

Thorne and his wife, Samantha, stopped at a nearby convenience store to have the ticket validated and make sure their eyes weren't playing tricks on them.

"We stopped and did the double-check," Thorne said with a laugh.

After letting the news sink in, Thorne called and told his parents the big news.

"There was a lot going through my mind," Thorne said. "It was crazy."

Thorne, who is a program assistant for Boy Scouts of America in Omaha, said he had never played the Game Book ticket before winning this big prize. He and Samantha are expecting a baby boy in May, so he said this comes at a great time.

"We're actually going to try to get some of those bills paid and stuff," he said.

Thorne purchased his winning ticket at Harlan Amoco, 2111 23rd St. in Harlan.
