DES MOINES, Iowa - Text messaging spread the news about a Creston woman's big lottery win even before she could.

"I called my mom, of course," Dianna Davis said as she claimed a $30,000 prize in the "Crossword" instant-scratch game. "And then I was on my way to text my daughter, but she had already heard because my son had texted his friend who's in a college class with her."

Davis, 45, who assembles tea machines at Bunn-O-Matic Corp. in Creston, said she plans to follow her mother's advice to spend her winnings wisely.

"I want to put a down payment on a house and then pay off some bills, too," she said.

Davis won the 37th of 97 top prizes of $30,000 available in the Crossword game. She claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines and bought her winning ticket at Casey's, 403 E. Townline St. in Creston.

Crossword is a $3 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in the ticket's puzzle. If a player uncovers 10 words, he/she wins $30,000. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.82.

Davis said she couldn't believe her eyes at first when she realized she'd uncovered 10 words on her ticket.

"I got an ink pen and started drawing lines over the words that I had," she said. "There's 10! Yes, there's 10 there!"

Sixty top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in Crossword along with 88 prizes of $3,000, more than 1,200 prizes of $300 and more than 5,900 prizes of $100.
