Andrew Deters, Leslie Navarra Claim Top Prize On "Game Book" Scratch Ticket
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Camanche couple who just bought their first home and are planning their wedding say their $100,000 lottery win came at just the right time.
"I'm always a firm believer in karma," Leslie Navarra of Camanche said Monday as she and her fiancé, Andrew Deters, claimed the fourth of six top prizes of $100,000 available in the "Game Book" instant-scratch game.
Deters, 32, echoed her thoughts.
"It couldn't have happened at any better of a time," he said as the couple claimed their prize at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Navarra, 28, an esthetician, said she bought their winning ticket Friday night and when Deters played it, he thought they had won a big prize. They both reviewed the ticket, but also took it to a store on Saturday to have it checked before they could fully believe their good news.
"We didn't want to think that we won and then be let down," Navarra said. "So we checked it out and sure enough, we won."
Navarra purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee Gas, 809 S. Fourth St. in Clinton. The couple just purchased a house last year and are planning their wedding in June, so Navarra said that their winnings can help them pay bills and plan for their honeymoon.
Navarra said that she and Deters, a diesel mechanic, were excited to share their news with family.
"I haven't even told my parents yet, so we're going to go stop by my parents' house tonight," she said. "My dad will be pretty shocked. That's why we got a lot of proof so we can show him because he'll be totally floored."
The Game Book is a $20 scratch game. Players have the chance to win prizes on eight games spread across six pages, all in one book. The games in each book are: Golden 7s, Doubling Star Crossword, Lucky Lines, Bubble Bucks, Winning Combination, Pyramids, Spin 'n Win and $100,000 Explosion. The Game Book will be void if any pages are separated from the book. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 2.52.
Two top prizes of $100,000 are still up for grabs in the Game Book along with two prizes of $10,000, 128 prizes of $1,000, 165 prizes of $500, and thousands of prizes from $75 to $200.Return to top↑
