Marquita Burrage Claims $10,000 Prize From March 16 Powerball® Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Davenport woman was at home watching TV when she discovered she'd won a $10,000 Powerball prize in Saturday's drawing.
"I screamed really loud!" Marquita Burrage said Monday as she claimed her prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Burrage, 29, said she checked her smart phone to get the winning numbers. Then she called her mother and sister to tell them the news. Unfortunately, they didn't believe her.
"Why would I lie? I have the numbers right here!" Burrage said she told her family.
The winning numbers in the $216 million Powerball jackpot drawing on Saturday were 3-7-21-44-53 and Powerball 16. No one won the jackpot that night and it has grown to an estimated $260 million for Wednesday's drawing.
Burrage bought her winning ticket at QC Mart, 2843 E. 53rd St. in Davenport. She won a $10,000 prize by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Had she added the Power Play® to her ticket, she would have multiplied her prize to $40,000.
Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot). The cost is $1 per play. Players who chose the Power Play and match four white balls and the Powerball win a $40,000 prize.
Burrage said that the recent high Powerball jackpots encouraged her to begin buying tickets in the game.
She said she will pay off her car loan with her winnings.
Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Players may visit the Iowa Lottery at 2323 Grand Ave. in Des Moines or go to one of the lottery's regional offices in Council Bluffs, Storm Lake, Mason City or Cedar Rapids to claim prizes.Return to top↑
