Mary Queener Wins One Of The Top Prizes In "Deluxe 7-11-21®" Scratch Game

  Hear Mary tell her story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Grimes woman had some dire predictions after realizing she'd won a $21,000 lottery prize.

"I said I'm either going to have a heart attack or faint, I don't know which one," Mary Queener said Thursday as she claimed her prize at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines. "But I didn't do either."

Queener, 59, won the eighth of 19 top prizes of $21,000 available in the "Deluxe 7-11-21®" instant-scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Fareway, 351 Gateway Drive in Grimes, and said she played it at home, then immediately asked her son, Robert, to double-check what she thought she saw.

"He couldn't believe it at first, either," she said. "We had to count it again."

Deluxe 7-11-21 is a $5 scratch game. If the total of "your numbers" in any one of the nine games in the play area on each ticket equals 7 or 11, the player wins the prize shown for that game. If the total of "your numbers" for any one game equals 21, the player wins triple the prize shown for that game. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.72.

Queener said she plans to buy a car with her lottery winnings.

Eleven top prizes of $21,000 are still up for grabs in Deluxe 7-11-21, along with 53 prizes of $2,100, more than 400 prizes of $210 and more than 800 prizes of $70.
