DES MOINES, Iowa - A Le Mars man thought he'd won $500 at first. Then he checked his ticket again.

Tim Langel, 59, claimed the third of 34 top prizes of $50,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's newest instant-scratch game version of "Super Crossword."

"The first time I thought I won $5. Then I thought I won $10. And then I thought I won $25. And then I thought I won $60," Langel said. "And then I thought I won $500, and I was really happy!"

Once he realized how much he'd really won, Langel shared his good news with others immediately.

"[I called] all my brothers and sisters," he said. "And all my friends."

Langel, who owns and operates Langel Body Shop Inc., claimed his prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Storm Lake. He purchased his winning ticket at Le Mars Car-Go Express, 327 Plymouth St. N.E. in Le Mars.

Langel already has big plans for his winnings.

"I'm gonna buy a home up in International Falls," he said.

Super Crossword (Game #804) is a $5 scratch game. Players win a prize by scratching the "your letters" then scratching the corresponding letters found in Puzzles 1 and 2 and the "bonus word." If players have scratched at least three complete words in Puzzle 1 or 2, they win the corresponding prize shown in the prize legend for that puzzle. If players uncover all six letters in the "bonus word" by scratching the letters that match the "your letters" they win the prize shown in the prize box. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.69.

Thirty-one top prizes of $50,000 are still up for grabs in Super Crossword, as well as 60 prizes of $5,000 and hundreds of prizes of $500 and $100.
