DES MOINES, Iowa - A Boone man has won a $25,000 lottery prize.

Cord Smith claimed the 23rd of 26 top prizes of $25,000 available in the lottery's "Lucky Jar Bingo" instant-scratch game.

Smith said he didn't really know what to think when he realized he had just won one of the game's top prizes.

"Nothing really," Smith said. "I was just speechless."

Smith, 28, thought there was no way he had just won a lottery prize that big.

"I thought it was wrong," Smith said. "Cause my luck's not that good."

Smith shared the news right away with his fiancée, Nicole Muller.

"I didn't say anything," Muller said. "My mouth was just open like, 'Oh my gosh.'"

Smith, who is a factory worker at 3M in Ames, claimed his prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He purchased his winning ticket at L & M Gas & Grocery, 320 W. Mamie Eisenhower Ave. in Boone.

Smith said he and Muller were already planning for their wedding in June 2014 and this win certainly will help.

"[It will] give us a nice honeymoon afterwards," Smith said.

Lucky Jar Bingo is a $2 scratch game. Players try to match any complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, four corners, or an "X" pattern on one of the four Bingo cards to win the corresponding prize in the legend beside that card. Scratch the "lucky jar." If the "lucky number" appears on any of the Cards 1 through 4, win the prize shown. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.51.

Three top prizes of $25,000 are still up for grabs in Lucky Jar Bingo, as well as 7 prizes of $2,500 and more than 100 prizes of $500, $250 and $150.
