DES MOINES, Iowa - A Linn County man was stunned to learn he'd won a $10,000 prize in Wednesday's Powerball drawing.

Charlie Hansen from Walford said he's a regular player and was having his old tickets checked. When he went to purchase his next set, he was told by the clerk that he'd won a pretty big prize.

"The gal running the register machine, she just stood there and stared at it," Hansen said.

Hansen, 45, said as soon as he found out he won, he tried to reach his wife, Diana, to share the good news with her.

"I actually had to text my wife because she was at work," Hansen explained.

Hansen said their seven children are pretty happy for dad.

Hansen, who works as an operator for TJ Construction in Cedar Rapids, said they haven't had much time to discuss how they plan to use the winnings yet. He said he and Diana talked a little bit about it when she actually saw the ticket Saturday night.

"But we just haven't sat down and decided for sure," Hansen said.

Hansen purchased his winning ticket at Guppy's on the Go, 200 Iowa Highway 151 in Walford. He claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

The winning numbers in the $40 million Powerball jackpot drawing on Wednesday were: 1-6-8-12-35 and Powerball 3.

There were no jackpot winners for that night's drawing. This Wednesday's estimated jackpot is $60 million.

Hansen won a $10,000 prize by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Had he added the Power Play® to his ticket, Hansen would have multiplied his win to $40,000.

"I might have to play the multiplier a couple times now," Hansen said.

Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot). The cost is $1 per play. Players who chose the Power Play and match four white balls and the Powerball win a $40,000 prize.

Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Players may visit the Iowa Lottery at 2323 Grand Ave. in Des Moines or go to one of the lottery's regional offices in Council Bluffs, Storm Lake, Mason City or Cedar Rapids to claim prizes.
