DES MOINES, Iowa - A Des Moines man said he plans to share his $50,000 lottery prize with each of his six children.

"The first thing I told [my wife], I'm going to give all the kids $1,000," Steven Roth said as he claimed his prize Tuesday at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines.

Roth claimed the sixth of 34 top prizes of $50,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's newest "Super Crossword" instant-scratch game.

Roth, 52, said his children range from age 18 to 33, and he's had the chance to share the news with some of them.

"They still can't believe it either," Roth said. "I haven't told them I'm going to give them any money yet but I'll surprise them."

Roth, who works as a labor foreman for Neumann Brothers Construction, stopped on his way to work and purchased what turned out to be his winning ticket. He said he couldn't wait to share the good news with his wife, Dawn.

"I scratched it off sitting in my truck and I couldn't wait to call my wife and tell her that I was rained out today. And I'm gonna probably go down and cash in a $50,000 winning ticket," Roth explained. "She thought I was April-foolin'."

Roth purchased his winning ticket at Git-N-Go, 1307 Army Post Road in Des Moines.

Roth also had a few more ideas in mind for his winnings.

"I've got a wall I was thinking about. And a roof I was thinking about," Roth said. "And I've definitely got to take care of my wife."

Super Crossword is a $5 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in either puzzle or the complete bonus word in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.69.
