Carol Frazier Wins Big Top Prize Playing the "Word Bank" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Mount Vernon woman didn't get much sleep after she realized she'd won a $30,000 lottery prize.
"I was at work last night and scratched my ticket and couldn't sleep," Carol Frazier explained to lottery officials Wednesday as she claimed her prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Frazier won the seventh of 12 top prizes of $30,000 available in the lottery's "Word Bank" instant-scratch game.
Frazier, 51, said she called her daughter to have her look at the ticket to make sure she was seeing it right.
"I went to Casey's before I went to work at 11 o'clock at night. And I scratched it as soon as I got there," Frazier explained. "I was so excited I had to tell my daughter to come to my job to make sure it was $30,000."
Frazier purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 323 U.S. Highway 30 W. in Mount Vernon.
Frazier, who is a direct support professional at REM Iowa, said she has good plans for her winnings.
"[My daughter] is going to college to get her master's is psychiatry," Frazier said. "She's got two kids and my other daughter has one kid. So, I'm going to help them out and put the rest in the bank and just save it for now."
Word Bank is a $3 scratch game. Players scratch the "bank vault letters" area to reveal 18 letters. Then they scratch each letter in the 12 words on the ticket front that corresponds to the "bank vault letters." If a player completes any word using the "bank vault letters," they win the prize shown for that word. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.79.
Five top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in Word Bank, as well as seven prizes of $3,000 and several hundred prizes of $75, $100, $300 and $500.Return to top↑
