Jamie Meyers Wins Big Top Prize Playing the "Super Crossword" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids woman admits she was not quiet about it when she realized she'd won a $50,000 lottery prize.
"I woke the whole house up, screaming and yelling and just freaking out," Jamie Meyers recalled with a laugh as she claimed her prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. "I was shaking so bad."
Meyers claimed the seventh of 34 top prizes of $50,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's newest "Super Crossword" instant-scratch game.
Meyers, 31, who works as a child care provider, said that she bought a couple Super Crossword tickets Thursday at Hy-Vee, 20 Wilson Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids, and then played them that night.
"I called my boyfriend in out of the garage. I told him to come in and look at this ticket with me," Meyers said. "He took forever, so I'm looking at it, and I noticed that I had 10 words. And I'm like, 'Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!'
"And I went flying down the steps, I about knocked him down the steps. And I went in my mom's room. I woke her up and I woke the whole house up!" she said.
Super Crossword is a $5 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in either puzzle or the complete bonus word in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.65.
Meyers won the game's top prize by uncovering 10 words on her ticket. She said that big wins in Crossword games run in her family - her grandmother, Shirley Meyers of Cedar Rapids, won a $3,000 prize playing a Crossword ticket in 2002.
Meyers said she plans to use part of her winnings to buy special gifts for family members, and she'll pay bills and put some into savings.
Twenty-seven top prizes of $50,000 are still up for grabs in the latest Super Crossword game, as well as 58 prizes of $5,000 and hundreds of prizes of $500 and $100.Return to top↑
