Cedar Rapids Woman Claims Second Big Lottery Prize In A Week

This Time, Jamie Meyers Claims Top Prize In "Cash Inferno" Scratch Game

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids woman thinks there's definitely something behind all the good luck she's had this month playing the lottery.

"I think I've got some guardian angels or someone looking down on me, giving me some good luck," Jamie Meyers said Wednesday as she claimed a $100,000 prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. It was her second trip to the lottery in a week. She had just visited the office on Friday to claim a $50,000 prize in the $5 "Super Crossword" instant-scratch game.

Meyers, 31, who works as a child care provider, has now also claimed the second of nine top prizes of $100,000 available in the lottery's $10 "Cash Inferno" scratch game. She bought her big winning tickets at two different Cedar Rapids stores -- Hy-Vee at 20 Wilson Ave. SW and Casey's at 201 Eighth Ave. SE.

As she did with her $50,000-winning ticket, Meyers said she played her $100,000 winner at home.

"I was at home, sitting at the kitchen table with my family," she said. "And my grandma and my uncle just got up to leave the house. And I was screaming and yelling. I was like, 'Oh, my gosh! I just won $100,000!' I had to go running out the door and catch my grandma. And she just kind of stopped in her tracks and she could barely move to come back inside and look at it."

Players win a prize in Cash Inferno by matching any "lucky symbols" to "your symbols" in each row in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.11.

Meyers' plans for her latest prize are the same as those for her first big win: She said she would spend part of her winnings to buy special gifts for family members, pay bills and put some into savings.

"I'm going to get my sister something and I'm going to help my mom get a car," she said. "I just got my brother a dirt bike with my last winnings."

Seven top prizes of $100,000 are still up for grabs in the Cash Inferno game, along with seven prizes of $10,000, more than 250 prizes of $1,000 and thousands of prizes from $100 to $300.
