Dubuque Woman's Luck Continues

Angela Puccio Wins $10,000 Top Prize Playing Iowa Lottery Scratch Game

Angela Puccio   Hear Angela tell her story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Dubuque woman said she considers herself a pretty lucky person. She claimed a $10,000 lottery prize Wednesday and a $50,000 lottery prize almost nine months ago.

Angela Puccio claimed the seventh of 17 top prizes of $10,000 available in the lottery's "Iron Man" instant-scratch game.

"We went out to the car and I was scratching them and I think I hit [my daughter] like four times," Puccio chuckled. "I was like, 'Elena, look. Look. I won!'"

Puccio, 51, purchased her winning ticket when she came to pick up her daughter from work at Eagle Country Market, 1800 Elm St. in Dubuque. Puccio, who works as a cashier there, said it was just random luck that she picked that ticket.

"I just went, got a loaf of bread and thought, 'Oh, just get some tickets out of the machine,'" Puccio said. "And Iron Man was one of them."

This wasn't her first visit to the Iowa Lottery. On Sept. 4, Puccio claimed a $50,000 lottery prize.

"Like eight months ago I won $50,000 on the $5 Hot $50,000," she said.

Puccio claimed her latest prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids and said she plans to spend some of it on her family.

"I have a fourth grandson on the way," she explained.

In the $2 scratch game, players try to match any of "your numbers" to either of the "winning numbers" to win the prize shown. If players find the "hand" symbol, they win triple the prize shown for that symbol. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.79.

Ten top prizes of $10,000 are still up for grabs in the game, as well as 24 prizes of $1,000 and more than 110 prizes of $100.
