DES MOINES, Iowa - For the second time this year, a Keokuk County man has won a $30,000 lottery prize.

Marvin Christner of What Cheer said he knows the reason for his good fortune.

"Luck, dumb luck," he said. "Yeah, that's right!"

Christner won the 55th of 97 top prizes of $30,000 available in the "Crossword" instant-scratch game. He claimed his prize Monday at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines and bought his winning ticket at Casey's, 410 S. Barnes St. in What Cheer.

Christner, 75, who operates a backhoe business and also plows snow in the winter, said he realized he'd won a big prize as he and his wife, Rita, played some scratch tickets Friday night at home.

"I told her, this here's all mine this time," he said with a smile. "Oh, no! She thought I ought to share."

Christner also won a $30,000 prize playing the Crossword game in January. He said he still has those winnings in the bank, but he and Rita are talking about plans for the money.

"She's talked about putting some new windows in the house," he said. "That might be a good use."

Crossword is a $3 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in the ticket's puzzle. If a player uncovers 10 words, he/she wins $30,000. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.82.

Forty-two top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in Crossword along with 65 prizes of $3,000, more than 860 prizes of $300 and more than 4,100 prizes of $100.
